Final Golden Globe predictions before Sunday’s show

This weekend, specifically tomorrow evening, the Golden Globe awards will be handed out. We’ll see who and what the Hollywood Foreign Press Association deems the best work of 2018. Their decisions will be broadcast worldwide right as members of the Academy are getting set to make their nomination choices. As such, this actually could have a slight impact on Oscar voting. In at least one or two cases, seeing who or what wins, along with how a speech or two goes, it might end up swaying things. You never know for sure, but at least this year, with such a tight race all around, the possibility is there.

Below are my set in stone Globe picks. I have A Star Is Born and Vice having very good nights, with Rami Malek beating Bradley Cooper in Best Actor (Drama) to potentially start to upend that Oscar race. In this humble prognosticator’s opinion, the hardest category to predict is Best Picture (Musical or Comedy), since equal cases can be made for any of the five in the category. No winner would surprise me. Even in Best Picture (Drama), there’s a viable chance for four of the five nominees (If Beale Street Could Talk would be a shock win). That’s just the way things seem to be going this year, so the HFPA are just following suit…
